THE GARDENS AT TWIN HICKORY
FEBRUARY 2016 NEWSLETTER

Winter Weather Reminders

  • In the event of inclement weather, please remember snow removal is a shared responsibility between The Gardens at Twin Hickory residents and The Gardens staff. Our team works very diligently to remove snow and ice from the parking lots, sidewalks, and stairways in the community. We recommend that The Gardens residents have a broom, snow shovel, ice scraper and de-icer on hand to personally remove snow from their vehicles and around it. The Gardens staff is not permitted to push or tow residents’ vehicles.
  • Although our staff is the best around, we cannot be everywhere at once so please be patient when calling about snow removal requests. Please park your cars approximately 3 feet from the curb when the weather predictions include snow accumulation. This will help our snow and ice removal team when clearing the sidewalks and making them safe for passage. Additionally, please report any extremely hazardous areas to us so we may give those areas our immediate attention.
  • DO NOT walk on the pond. It may look frozen, but it is not and we don’t want anyone to get hurt!
  • The heating system runs off of the hot water in your tank. This means if you have your heat blowing this will drain the available hot water from your tank. This may result in less hot water when you wish to take a shower. Also each room in your home has a vent that blows out heat at the ceiling. Some vents will have a stronger air flow than others which means there will be some rooms warmer and some cooler. For best ventilation leave doors open and use ceiling fans to create a better flow of heat in all rooms.

Tips to improve the efficiency of your heating system:

  • Turn your heat down about 10 minutes before taking showers
  • Try not to take showers after you have been washing dishes, using the dishwasher and washing clothes. Remember the tank will need time to recover and build back the hot water
  • Since it takes time for your home to heat up, do not turn the heat off while you are at work or it will take twice as long to heat the apartment when you get home
  • Plan to leave your heat at a comfortable level and not turn it off and on
