Wings, Beer, Hops and Family Fun Around Richmond This Week

If you live in an apartment in Glen Allen, VA then you know that October brings festivals to the Richmond area.  

Family Fun Day at 1708 Gallery - Saturday, Oct. 18

1708 Gallery is hosting a free Family Fun Day for all ages in conjunction with their current exhibition, Exquisite Corpse. Come make your own exquisite corpse with artists featured in the exhibition. There will also be lantern making, sidewalk chalk, balloons, and a bake sale by the VCU Photo & Film department. 1- 4 p.m. Free.

Forest Hill Fall Fest - Saturday, Oct. 18

Head to Forest Hill Park for the second annual Forest Hill Fall Fest. Enjoy live music, kids’ activities, great food and more. 4 p.m. Free.

Virginia Hops and Harvest Fest - Saturday, Oct. 18

Virginia Hops and Harvest Fest returns for the third year in a row at Pocahontas State Park.  It’s a day-long celebration of Virginia craft brew, food and outdoor adventure. Featuring beer from Devil’s Backbone, Starr Hill, Hardywood and many more. With music from When Rock Was Young – A Tribute to Elton John, Quebe Sisters, Paul Plumeri and more. Gates open at noon.

Richmond Oktoberfest - Friday, Oct. 17 & Saturday, Oct. 18

Richmond Oktoberfest celebrates 46 years this year. Previously held at the Showplace, the two-day event has now been moved to the Old Dominion Building at the Richmond International Raceway. Richmond Oktoberfest delivers German music, dancing, German food and Oktoberfest beers. Over 5,000 people attend every year. $12 in advance; $15 at the door. Friday & Saturday 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

"Souper Bowl" Soup Fest - Oct. 18

New! Max's Positive Vibe Cafe is throwing a soup festival and they're bringing "The Soup Nazi" from "Seinfeld" to be a judge. Participating restaurants include Buz and Ned's, Daily Kitchen, Estilo, Galley, Mamma Zu and more. "Souper Bowl I" will take place in the Stratford Hills Shopping Center, in front of Positive Vibe Cafe at 2825 Hathaway Road from 1 - 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 and include samples of all the soup and live music by Cary Street Ramblers, Andy Bopp and The Hullabaloos. Tickets are available at the gate. Additional soup and food will be available for purchase. Wine and beer will be available for purchase.

Kickin’ Chicken Wing Fest - Oct. 19

New! First time fest at the 17th Street Farmer’s Market celebrating all things chicken wings. Expect to find them hot, mild, sweet, spicy, teriyaki, buffalo, Asian, Thai and more. Plus live music, beer and more. The event was originally scheduled for Sept 7, but has been moved to Oct. 19 – which we think sounds perfect. Free entry. Noon to 5 p.m.
