If you live in an apartment in Glen Allen, VA, then head to Shockoe Fest where we will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in the Bottom for the second year in a row.
Last year, Shockoe Bottom bars and the neighborhood association threw a party at the last minute when Shamrock the Block decided to move to the Boulevard.
Roughly 8,000 to 10,000 people showed up to celebrate the first Shockoe Fest. This year, organizers are expecting even more.
The Halligan Bar & Grill will be frying up fish and chips. Cha Cha’s andSociety will be serving cheeseburgers and fries plus bangers and onions. Southern Railway Taphouse will have chipotle BBQ prok shanks and mac and cheese egg rolls. Plus local restaurantsLulu’s and Tio Pablo will be serving house specialties in front of their restaurants.
Expect plenty of Irish beer on tap including. Plus the Irish coffee tent from the Church Hill Irish Festival will be making an appearance as well.
Organizers have expanded the footprint of the festival which will run from 17th to 18th Street and include the 17th Street Farmer’s Market where you’ll find a kids’ area with face painting, moon bounces and cotton candy.
There will be two stages, one in the 17th Street Farmer’s Market with traditional Irish dancing and Celtic music. And another at 18th and Franklin streets with rock bands The Jimmy Catlett Group, Roper & Furley and local headliner RPG.
Be sure to stop by Rosie Connolly’s for their St. Pat’s Street Party across from the 17th Street Farmer’s Market. They’ll be closing off Walnut Alley behind the pub for an outdoor stage with Irish dancing, pipes and drums, as well as traditional Irish music from the Sutor Brothers, Patchwork and Scalaheen.
And up the street, Siné Irish Pub will be hosting their annual St. Pat’s Street Party with a heated tent, bands and beer.
