School Buses Back on the Road

Joseph Coupal - Monday, August 20, 2012

If you live in an apartment in Glen Allen, VA be aware that school is about to start. Regardless of if you have kids or not, the start of school impacts your life if you are commuting. Keep in mind that kids will be at bus stops and school buses will be on the road again.

Commuters are about to have a lot more company on the roads. School buses will be out in full force next week as school starts up, and transportation officials want to remind you of a few things to help keep kids safe.

One of the biggest problems for bus drivers is when other drivers do not obey bus stop signs.

Keeping control of the bus is a balancing act for bus drivers. They have to watch the kids, the road, and listen to their transportation radios. But, too often other vehicle drivers make this job hard by running their stop lights.

Running the school bus stop sign can mean a loss of your license, and hefty fine. Not to mention an increase in car insurance fees.

To avoid this, transportation officials say keep this in mind:

If you're going in the opposite direction of the school bus you still have to stop. If there is a median barrier dividing the two lanes of traffic, then you can continue.

Once you have stopped drivers need to watch out for kids getting on and off bus stops. And be prepared to wait.

It can be very inconvenient riding behind the school bus. But bus drivers appreciate the patience of other drivers.
