If you live in an apartment in Glen Allen, VA, this weekend starts the March festival season that will bring us right into spring! Here are just a few of the fun happenings this weekend.
March festivals continue this weekend with Flying Squirrels' First Friday Fan Fest and the first Richmond GhanaFest.
And then it’s all about St. Patrick’s Day in the middle of the month, with Shamrock the Block on the Boulevard, Shockoe Fest in Shockoe Bottom and F.W. Sullivan’s Street Party.

Flying Squirrels' First Friday Fan Fest - Friday, March 6
Squirrels fans can purchase single-game tickets at the 2015 First Friday Fan Fest. The first 100 fans who purchase tickets during the First Friday Fan Fest will receive a free t-shirt. There will be happy hour drink specials, live music, concession items and a sneak peak at the new upgrades taking place at The Diamond. Free entry. 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
GhanaFest Food Festival - Sunday, March 7
Get a taste of Ghana at the first ever GhanaFest Food Festival at Libby Hill Park in Church Hill. With live Ghanaian high life music and jazz. Different cuisine dishes for the people of Ghana will be presented. Attendees get to try different meals and common food from the 10 different tribes of Ghana such as jollof rice, croaker fish, plantains, kelewele, waakye, banku and more. Plates will run $10 to $15, including sides and a drink. Appetizers between $2 and $10. Arrangements are underway to move it to an indoor facility if the weather is very cold. Free entry. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Several other events will be held around town in honor of the first GhanaFest including a cultural exhibit at Maymont on March 6 and 8; a youth rally at the Virginia State Capitol Bell Tower on Friday; and an opening ceremony at the Altria Theater on Friday.
