Beer, Horses, Shopping and Eating This Weekend Around Richmond, Glen Allen

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, November 11, 2014

If you live in an apartment in Glen Allen, VA, and are looking for something to do this weekend, there are a few very interesting events from which you can choose, from beer to horses to shopping and eating!

Hardywood Gingerbread Stout 2014 Release on Friday & Saturday

It’s now practically a Richmond tradition – and a Richmond sign of the holidays. Beer lovers lining up around the block at Hardywood to get a crack at the highly praised, limited release of Hardywood Gingerbread Stout.  Described as “freagin' Christmas in a bottle" by BeerAdvocate, Gingerbread Stout will have an early bird release on Friday night at 9 p.m. after the tasting room closes.  On Friday night, GBS will be available in 750mL bottles (4 bottle limit per person) to go only, along with a selection of other seasonal merchandise. The lines will be cut off at 10:30 p.m., and there will be no on-site consumption. But fear not, the main event returns on Saturday with food trucks, music and plenty of GBS to go around (hopefully!). GBS will be available at 2 p.m. in 750mL bottles (4 bottle limit per person) and 32oz and 64oz growler fills to go only. GBS will be available in 6oz and 12oz pours for consumption at the brewery. Food trucks BoDillaz, Estes Bar.B.'Que and more will be on site throughout the day. As well as music from Marco with Love, The Trillions, Photosynthesizers and The Diamond Center. 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Hardywood, 2408 Ownby Ln.

The Museum Stores of Richmond Holiday Shoppers Fair on Friday & Saturday

It’s the 20th year for the Museum Stores of Richmond Holiday Shoppers Fair where you can shop from 15 of Richmond’s most popular museums under one roof. This year, the fair will be held at the Library of Virginia. Expect to see unique gifts and wares from Agecroft Hall, Lewis Ginter Botanical GardenThe Poe Museum, John Marshall House, the Richmond Railroad Museum, Science Museum of Virginia, and many more. Free admission? Friday 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Library of Virginia, 800 East Broad St.

The Gala of the Royal Horses on Saturday

If you’re a fan of the Lipizzaner Stallions, this one is for you. The Royal Horses of Europe will visit Richmond for the first time ever. Think dancing horses, flowing manes, and beautiful girls in sparkly costumes. Andalusian, Friesian, Lipizzaner and Arabian horses will perform at the Richmond Coliseum, along with Spanish flamenco dancers. They canter, trot, and perform maneuvers once used on the battlefield known as “The Airs Above the Ground.” Tickets $37 to $75. 7:30 p.m.  601 E. Leigh St.

GRAZE on Grace on Sunday

Think of it as a mini-Broad Appetit. GRAZE on Grace is a food festival on Grace Street serving up sampling dishes from over 25 of Richmond’s best restaurants. The event will take place on four blocks of Grace Street from 4th to 7th Street. Admission is free and sample plates are set at $3. The event was originally scheduled for October 2012, but was postponed due to Hurricane Sandy. And now, finally, it’s here. Noon to 5 p.m. Grace Street from 4th to 7th Street.
